National Literacy Coaching Summit
April 2, 3 & 4, 2009
The nation's first Literacy Coaching Summit took place on the tropical island campus of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The two-day conference (and one-day preconference) focused on the research and practice of literacy coaching, bringing together experts and practitioners from around the country. Thanks to all who attended, and revisit this site for announcements about future reading and literacy events.
Several presenters from the Summit have offered to make materials from their presentations available online. As we receive these materials, we will continue posting them on our resources page.
The conference, held in conjunction with the TAMUCC Reading Conference, was sponsored by CEDER (TAMUCC's Center for Educiatonal Development, Evaluation, and Research) in partnership with the Literacy Coaching Clearinghouse, a joint venture of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and the International Reading Association (IRA), and other educational groups. The conference chair Jack Cassidy is a former IRA President and co-author of the popular annual "What's Hot" column.
If you presented at the Summit, we encourage you to submit a manuscript for a refereed publication on literacy coaching. Click here for details.
The Preconference Workshop, "What's Hot and What's Not in Literacy" (below), kicked off the National Literacy Coaching Summit on April 2, 2009.
